Make a Direct Impact in Bellaire

Here at Friends of the Bellaire Library, we are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for all. Support the work of the Friends by becoming a member, renewing your current membership, or donate. Your involvement helps support our Library and fund programs and events, provides a strong voice for advocacy in support of the Bellaire Library, and puts you in the company of good friends who share your appreciation for the importance of libraries. Bring Us Your Used Books

HOW TO DONATE BOOKS.  The Friends of the Library is run by volunteers. We don't have a lot of resources to sort and sell your donations, so please make sure the condition of your items is top quality and suitable for resale. Particularly during COVID, we do not have the resources to handle a lot of books. We receive 20,000 books on average every year. That is a lot for a small number of volunteers to sort and evaulate. Please help us out by using this rule of thumb:  if you wouldn't give it to a friend to read, please don't give it to us. Please make sure the books are in tip-top condition.

If you bring in books for donation, please talk with a member of staff who will check the quality of your books. Only then, can we accept them due to the amount of books that we receive.

WHAT DO WE ACCEPT?  Current (no more than 5 years old) books (adult, teen & childrens) in very good condition.  We also accept rare or valuable books (please consult the librarian).

WHAT ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.  Please refrain from donating the following:

  • Mold, water damage, or dirt/stains.  If it smells, it won’t sell!

  • Yellowed pages, heavy highlighting/markups, or excessive wear

  • Reader’s Digest condensed books

  • Magazines and newspapers

  • Reference books or textbooks

  • Encyclopedias (unless it’s a complete set no more than 5 years old)

  • VHS and cassette tapes

  • Books in foreign languages other than Spanish
